Biographies

Ruth Kasckow, performer, educator and movement coach is fascinated with discovering creative pathways to enrich musical expression and enjoyment. Her flute artistry   Ruth’s flute artistry includes traditional flute technique and on an understanding of how the body is designed to move to inform musical choices on a deep, creative level. As a performer, Ruth has played in orchestras in Southern California and Mexico, and currently performs chamber music concerts with her chamber group Pasadena Chamber Music Collective and as a duo with pianist Bryan Pezzone.

Ruth has been on the faculty of Pasadena Conservatory of Music and currently maintains a flute studio in La Canada, focusing on a whole-body approach to flute playing. As a movement coach and Body Mapping Educator, Ruth works with musicians to help them play with more ease, fluidity and attention, and to avoid injury.
Ruth holds an MFA in flute performance from California Institute of the Arts. She is also a licensed Body Mapping Educator and Franklin Method Educator Level 3. She has given many workshops in Body Mapping and Flute Pedagogy at master classes and conferences including Beyond the Master Class, National Flute Association, Performing Arts Medical Association, and Music Teachers Association of California. She currently teaches a course called Playing Flute from the Inside Out. www.flutemuse.com

 Bryan Pezzone’s career is of an eclectic pianist/musician. He excels in classical, contemporary, jazz, and experimental genres and is well known for his versatility and virtuosity as a recording and performing artist, improviser and composer.

 From 1987-2000 he was head of Keyboard Studies at Cal Arts. During that time, he was also principal pianist of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra from 1991-1999. He’s performed, recorded and collaborated in just about any capacity in Southern California as well as being invited as a guest artist nationally and internationally to perform all genres of music and organize events in addition to playing his own shows.

 He is currently on the Piano Faculty at Los Angeles College of Music and continues to maintain an active and varied career.
